As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we want to recognise the incredible contribution of our volunteers and share the experiences of those who help make Wandsworth a stronger, more connected community.
One of our volunteers Wayne, first discovered us through Reach Volunteering where we advertised our photograpghy volunteer opportunity. His motivation was simple but powerful, to meet new people, build connections within the community, and use his time in a meaningful way.
Reflecting on his experience, he shared that volunteering opened his eyes to the number of people who are passionate about supporting local communities. Wayne came to our events and captured lovely images for us to share in our communications and marketing.
“Through volunteering, I realised there are so many people who genuinely care about our communities and are committed to making a difference. I feel I only played a small part, but it was encouraging and inspiring to see so many people dedicated to supporting Wandsworth and strengthening the local community.”
Creating a positive volunteering experience is important to us, and our volunteer Wayne described feeling welcomed and supported from the very beginning.
“Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and clearly dedicated to the work they do, which created a positive and supportive environment.”
Like many people considering volunteering, finding time alongside other commitments can be a challenge. Balancing work and volunteering required careful planning, but with some organisation, they were able to make it work and enjoy the benefits that volunteering brings.
This story is a reminder that volunteering doesn’t require unlimited free time or specialist skills. Whether you can offer a few hours a month or a more regular commitment, your contribution can help strengthen local services, support residents, and ensure community voices are heard.
This Volunteers’ Week, we’re saying thank you to all our volunteers for the time, energy and enthusiasm they bring to our work. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, there has never been a better time to get involved. Not only can you make a positive difference in your community, but you may also discover new skills, build lasting connections, and become part of a network of people who are passionate about making Wandsworth a better place for everyone.
