New Mental Health Strategy for NHS South West London

01/08/2023 by Comms Team

The NHS in South West London has launched a new Mental Health Strategy setting out the ways it will improve and support the mental health of local people over the next five years.

Our new South West London Mental Health Strategy has been developed through analysing population needs and listening to issues raised by residents, stakeholders and those with lived experience of mental health issues.

This is a strategy that focuses on prevention (from pregnancy and birth onwards for the whole life course) as much as treatment which values emotional wellbeing and community resilience.

Covering the whole of south west London, the strategy is the first of its kind in London and is for everyone who lives, works or studies in Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.

More information and the full strategy is available here: Our Mental Health Strategy for South West London – NHS South West London Integrated Care Board (icb.nhs.uk)

Health & Wellness Coaching for Chronic Pain? Local Hospitals Pilot Social Prescribing Programme

26/07/2023 by Comms Team

Wandsworth resident June said she has “regained control of her life” after living with chronic pain, thanks to a pilot health project with social prescribing services in hospitals. June was referred to the chronic pain service at St George’s where she started working with a Health and Wellbeing Coach, Sam.

June’s problems with pain started after she was injured in an accident on her 70th birthday. “I was left in excruciating pain running from my head to my feet and had tried everything to help after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia,” she said.

“I was stressed at home over house repairs, pain and was gaining weight.”

June claims that receiving coaching has changed her life and given her a sense of self worth.

“Often, hospital pain clinics will have exhausted medical options such as medication or procedures.” Dr Sekeram. Early results from this pilot are due to end later this year.
